I find it strange, and deeply ironic, that a year on, an otherwise fine article still boasts an obviously doctored photograph of NI Vavilov. Seriously, who thought that was a good idea? See Nikolai Vavilov as he never was: A true scientist does not deserve a fake photo.

Hi JC! On the subject of re-reading... I re-read "The First Champanzee" in the last week, after 20 years! The overall message so very relevant today (notwithstanding numerous details now outdated). I realise I failed to acknowledge in my book "The Secret Dinobird Story" some bits I must have got from T1C, but I'm writing a substantial piece now on the subject for a net journal. Not sure how into palaeoanthropology you are these days, but I've discovered one or two interesting papers that might be of great interest. I'll try to email you of I can find your address 🙂
