Do you know when these were made?
@lisascenic I don’t know, but I would guess 16th or 17th century.
@ablaze They are portable sundials. The compass aligns with north and then the gnomon gives an indication of sidereal time. These might be 16th century. Ivory face. A huge collection in the Pezzoli Museum in Milan.
@jeremycherfas Amazing
Love the closeup shot, you can see that it’s ivory and then all the drawing/incisions on the faces.
@ablaze I have an unfulfilled obsession with sundials.
Exquisite
@joe_vinson_1 I know. There were so many interesting details, and while they are all roughly the same, each one is also unique.
