@jojolemon That's what I said when I first heard the term. It's a variation on the ice cream float--grape soda (purple) and vanilla ice cream (cow)--made popular in US soda fountain shops since the late 1960s, which should explain the name. It's very popular in the northeast US as Concord grapes come into season but the temperatures are still warm enough to savor a float, or two.
A thing of beauty when made with Concord grape soda!
