People of the interwebs: I know someone famous said something about a crank being a little thing that makes revolutions, but can I find it? Can I heck. If you know better -- and I know it was not Abe Lincoln -- please let me know.
Jeremy Cherfaspublished this
but now that i’m googling, it appears it’s attributed to a few people.
Why wouldn't DDG find that for me? Mind you, it is only "attrib." And ironically, considering it is you, my memory has it down for Ho Chi Minh, but I didn't want to say so.
Think it was Schumacher
Could have been. Certainly fits.
weird. I haven’t seen a reference to HCM yet - only a few vague ones to a socialist vegetarian journal published in Victorian times.
It's EF (Fritz) Schumacher. I heard him at a conference in 1976 where he declared that he was proud to be called a 'crank'. "A crank" he said "is a device for transforming a small movement into a great revolution." Also see a similar quote david-boyle.co.uk/books/moneycha… @SheilaDillon
Thanks. That's two votes for Schumacher. The description of Rupert Brooke predates him, so it isn't original, but that isn't attributed to anyone.
