All interesting, useful and considerate. I expect nothing less. I suppose the only fly in the ointment is this gem:

I'm not really seeing that.
That study of how people from rice- and wheat-growing areas of China differ in social situations is interesting, and part of a long history of trying to make use of the collectivism needed to grow rice well to explain other things. I'm not totally convinced.

Like Tom MacWright, I too have almost no need for Google these days, with one exception: Chat. I have a couple of friends with whom I enjoy messaging, and they aren't about to go anywhere else. I already use YakYak. Is there any way I could message their GTalk without having a Google account myself?
