@DianaEGarvin Where are you seeing teeth? The notches in the centre of the blade on the right are for holding the blade securely in the handle. They do not touch the face. The bit that shaves you is the shiny sharp edge.

The notches are an attempt by blade manufacturers to fit all different kinds of handle. Here you see a blade in my (expensive) Merkur, right, and an inexpensive Wilkinson, left, with different locator details.

The history of King Camp Gillette is rather interesting, and I believe the different notch patterns may have had something to do with other manufacturers wanting to use his blades in their handles, or their blades in his handles.

I guess that’s what I meant, using “teeth” instead of notches. Do you think that there would have been different handle types used, based on the slightly different notch styles?
